A programmable logic controller (PLC) or programmable controller is a digital computer used for automation electromechanical processes.


PLC executes a program and elaborates digital and analogical signals from the sensors e to the actuators in an industrial system.

Within time, with the progressive miniature of electronic components and cost lowering, it is used also in domestic environments; a PLC installed in the electric panel of a house, after the magneto-thermical and differential switches (automatic circuit breaker), allows the automatic management of many house systems: heating, anti-burglar, irrigation, LAN, lights, ecc...

A PLC is an object hardware-compoundable, whose main characteristic is its great strength, normally the PLC is in noisy places, with many electrical interferences, high temperatures and high humidity. In certain cases, PLC works 24/24 for 365 days/year, in factories that never stops.

The PLC structure is adapted to the process to automatize.
During the project of the control system, the right boards are chosen, then inserted in the PLC BUS or rack.

Programming languages
Programming software refers to standard IEC1131-3 and comprehend at least the Ladder (Contact Scheme) and the Functional Block ( logical blocks); it is possible to use also other languages.
